Federal Reserve Responds
to Letter about
Commercial Real Estate
NAR worked with
Congressmen Kanjorski
and Calvert who authored
and
sent a letter to Fed
Chairman Bernanke and
U.S. Treasury Secretary
Geithner recently, and
the Fed has responded.
The letter which was
co-signed by 79 members
of Congress, urged
action – particularly on
commercial real estate
liquidity problems –
that may threaten an
economic recovery.
Assessment of the issues
is one of its "highest
priorities," the
response stated. Also
mentioned was the Fed’s
intention to continue to
analyze commercial real
estate markets and the
effectiveness of its
supervisory guidance as
well as ongoing use of
examiner outreach as
regulatory agencies and
the industry work
through challenging
issues in industry
credit markets.
